DiscOasis. It's an oasis of disco in an otherwise disco-less land. Open until Labor Day at South Coast Botanic Garden.

The GLOW Fades

January 11, 2021April 2, 2021 by Scott Dee, posted in Events, South Coast Botanic Garden

After a couple months of GLOW at South Coast Botanic Garden, it's time to look back at the light and the music. (For those who didn't attend - it's a walking / music / plant / light show with a water theme)

A group of leaves shining in the fresh rain

Strolling in the Rain

December 29, 2020April 2, 2021 by Scott Dee, posted in Blogroll, South Coast Botanic Garden

Had a wonderful day at South Coast Botanic Garden in some heavy rain. The leaves looked amazing! And the plants are holding up better than I did in the cold.

GLOW – at SCBG

December 5, 2020April 2, 2021 by Scott Dee, posted in Events, South Coast Botanic Garden

Glow is happening at SCBG until January 10th, 2021. If you want to take a break from being stuck indoors - or take a break from more 'normal' plants - swing on by the garden to see the foliage in a new light! (Yes, that was a pun)

Yellow Chevroned Parakeet in a White Floss Silk Tree

Yellow Chevroned Parakeet : Far From Home

February 16, 2020April 21, 2021 by Scott Dee, posted in South Coast Botanic Garden

The yellow chevroned parakeet did not originate in Southern California, but it's certainly made itself home here and across much of the surrounding area. Take a peek at this observation at SCBG, and find out more about these lovely birds!

@MindfulFoliage

I hope these hummingbirds' momma doesn't freak out too much!
I've started loving a muted color palette after spending some time wilderness camping. The plants, rocks, even the earth underneath it all is thriving with its tan palette. I wonder how much the color changes when there's rain!
Two things that you have to do during a Maine autumn -
Some more amazing fall colors in Boston! We don't get anything like that in SoCal, and especially not in front of lovely brick buildings.
There's some wonderfully subtle (and not so subtle) plant life around the Harvard area, even as winter starts its approach.
Always a fan of finding Ginkgo trees in the city! 🍂 They're such sturdy sulfer-eaters. 🌲 We could do with more of these trees in LA. They might clean up some of the smog!
Finally got around to making some salsa with the Shishito peppers! It turned out quite well, and not nearly as spicy as expected.
Always loving the hikes with the Sierra Club!
Found this ferocious beast growing next to the olive tree. I was told that having mushrooms in soil indicates high nutrients - and here I'd been thinking it was about time to fertilize.
